CyberDefenderFree makes fast comprehensive scans and quick updating ensure you are protected from new and existing hijack spyware attacks before other spyware cleaner programs can stop emerging attacks. Risk levels of suspicious files are calculated and alerts sent out without delay to the entire network using a secure relay system. You get spyware removal and quarantine when spyware is found and real-time alerts on suspicious web activity. I would personally prefer the Ad-Aware SE Personal but if you find that Ad-Aware is not enough for you, then give this one a shot because it’s compatible with other anti-virus and spyware programs too. As this version 1.15 was just launched not long ago, there may be bugs but I’ll keep you posted.

Spyware Doctor's trial features include real-time protection, a pop-up blocker, a browser monitor, and a keylogger guard. The Live Update feature works smoothly, letting you know at start-up if there are significant updates. New features also include Spider scanning technology, rootkit scanning, alternate data streams (ADS) threat detection, kernel-level malicious-process detection, and minor enhancements to the graphical user interface. The full version of this program is one of the better antispyware tools available, but without the ability to remove threats in the trial, your infected computer will remain that way unless you purchase the full version. I am impressed with the spyware-removal features of the full version of Spyware Doctor, and consider it one of the most effective available, but the anemic free version makes it hard for users to fully realize its true potential.

Lavasoft's free Ad-Aware Personal 1.06 does a good job of protecting you against adware and spyware that have already made the trip to your PC. However this free product falls short in preventative protection features that are available only in Lavasoft's paid products.

In performance tests conducted by AV-Test.org, Ad-Aware ranked 4th among the 5 products tested for “Spyware Specialist” story despite solid detection and disinfection scores. This free application detected 85% of active adware and spyware samples thrown at it. It also disinfected 45% of adware and 60% of spyware samples. Ad-Aware did the best job of detecting inactive adware and spyware samples. However, Ad-Aware Personal lacks root kit protection and, more important, the Ad-Watch real-time protection available in Lavasoft's $27 Ad-Aware SE Plus. What is beneficial about real-time protection is that it helps prevent threats from landing on your system in the first place. Ad-Aware SE Personal also lacks e-mail tech support. But overall, the free Ad-Aware Personal 1.06 is a good to have basic adware and spyware detective software.
